Deployment Summerville, Canada

I can honestly say my first experience with the DSPA unit as a front line fire suppression tool has been a huge success. The unit performed exactly the way the video  demonstrates and reports say they do. The unit not only saved Thousands in property damage it also reduced needed man power, on scene equipment and resources needed to typically fight a fire such as this. The owner was very impressed with the speed at which the fire was knocked down. - Chris Spencer Chief of Summerville Fire

I Chris Spencer Chief of Summerville Fire received / acknowledged a call from our Dispatch @ 20:06 to respond to the scene of a structure. Crews and apparatus responded @ 20:09 and arrived on scene @ 20:12. I established command and observed smoke showing on all sides of the structure and appeared heaviest coming from underneath the Crawl space of the mobile home section of the residence. I made contact with the owner who reported everyone was out of the residence and believed the fire to be in the Crawl Space under the mobile home. I requested Mutual Aid resources from Brooklyn & Windsor in the form of tankers and man power to the scene.

I directed arriving crews to pull an 1 3/4" attack line and crews to packup in order to mount an offensive attack on the fire. During this time I requested a DSPA by deployed in the crawl space through an accesses Door in the crawl space on the south side west end of the home. Upon opening the door thick heavy smoke and flames pushed through the opening with thermal temperatures observed over 600°F range. The DSPA fire suppression unit was activated and deployed the unit into the crawl space and the door closed up during disbursement of the unit. The smoke very quickly changed colour and density, during this time crews and charged hose lines stood by at the ready to mount an offensive fire attack. Upon opening the door 1 -2 min later door the DSPA unit had extinguished  the fire, no visible flame were seen and only  white smoke. The compartment temperatures were greatly reduced to between 170 - 200°F. The remaining hot spots were cooled with water and additional accesses were made in the skirting to allow for ventilation and over haul. Positive pressure ventilation was employed to clear the smoke from the Crawl space  just 20 min after deployment of the DSPA and I am happy to report not a single flare up was observed.

The additional mutual aid reasources brought in, arrived on scene only to be turned back to their respective departments. The total water used on scene was less than 200 gallons. The fire was declaired out at 21:00 hrs and the order give the pack up and return to station

Lastly we as fire fighters, all know that sucesses when it come to Mobile Home fires are few and far between. That alone should speak volumes to anyone doubting this product as a worthwhile front line tool.

I would like to thank Dave Sumner and Tim Chiappara for introducing and making this product available to our department.
