In the last years the protection from fire in Wind Turbines has become an increasing topic of concern after several fire related incidents.
In fact, with the massive growth of sustainable energy solutions and the industry, the rise of concerns is inevitable. With a growing amount of systems operational worldwide, more fire-related incidents occur. Fires in renewable energy systems not only lead to a loss of business continuity but are also a serious safety issue for their surroundings and possibly human lives. This makes the introduction of fixed fire suppression systems for renewable energy solutions becoming more prevalent in many applications.
Typical DSPA fire suppression systems consist of one or more DSPA aerosol generators and a highly sophisticated fire detection system, assuring the customer to be notified in the early developing phase of the fire, thus giving the customer the chance to prevent many unnecessary damages. If a fire does develop, the DSPA generators will activate and quickly extinguish the fire. DSPA aerosol generators are highly effective, non-pressurized and environmental friendly.
Wind turbine fire suppression
DSPA is especially well suited to suppress wind turbines fires. For only a very small investment the wind turbine can be protected against fire for 15 years with minimal maintenance. The system is dry and won't do any harm to the electronics present in the wind turbine. A simple DSPA installation can prevent the loss of a multi-million investment due to a fire. Due to the height and location of wind turbines, classic firefighting methods face their limits and therefore DSPA fire suppression systems are widely deployed, which are very well suited for wind turbines as it suppresses electrical and hydraulics fires quickly with ease.
Downtime is one of the most harmful things an operator can face. Priority is to have a turbine running again in the least amount of time. With a quick interchange of faulty electrical cabinets or other components and light & easy to mount extinguishing generators, we managed to get turbines up and running again in a few hours.
